Things to do in Batam.

Long holidays equate to me wanting to go on a short getaway trip.

Dating a military guy equates to difficulties in leave approvals.

Adding the two up, equates to us going to nearby countries – I am so glad Batam is just a short 30 minute ferry ride away. I can’t wait to explore more of such nearby islands together!

During our last trip there, we stayed at Batam View Resort, a quaint quiet place with its own private beach. It is just beside Montigo resort – Ferry departs from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, and goes to Nongsa Ferry Terminal where the shuttle bus from the hotel will pick you up. If you would like to be at a more centralized place, I’ll advise to stay in one of the many city hotels. My pick would be iHotel Batam, which is just beside Nagoya Hill shopping center – with numerous mani pedi nail salons, hair salons, spa and massage parlor (some of which are strictly for men only) as well as fake branded items. Oh, and not to forget, A&W! There’s a really huge supermarket there as well, and I really can go crazy buying all the snacks and indomee back home…

Itinerary for Batam:

Eat, sleep, chill, slack, swim, laze around, eat.

Batam View also has its own seafood kelong, I really wouldn’t mind eating with such a view everyday… take note that the seafood here is slightly more pricey than those outside, recommended to go to:

1. Golden Prawn Seafood Restaurant where the food is the cheapest among those I’ve ate at.

2. HarbourBay – my favorite! The view is to die for! Choose an outdoor seat, and watch the sun set as the day fades into darkness.

Here and There Chjimes

A new gem that me and the bestie chanced upon while searching for a place to chill after dinner at Hogs Breath at Chjimes.

Those who know me will know that once I love a place, I will want to keep heading back. Here and There at Chjimes is one of the places that deserves repeated patronage.

My second visit was with the fatty for our second anniversary advanced dinner.

I actually only ordered one glass of white wine, but they keyed in the wrong order and I was most gleeful when they gave the second glass to us on the house. Take note I love wines and Kris doesn’t. Teehee! Love places that value customer service…

Recommended:

Foie Gras and Wagyu Kushiyaki, a gorgeous piece of work that was an absolute delight.

image

Oysters which literally melted off in my mouth… I love anything oysters and this… I’m pretty much having an intense craving for it now!

Chicken skin Kushiyaki

Squid ink curry rice, this take on fusion was very refreshing.

My handsome date, thank you for always giving in to my nonsense and for loving me in a way no one has ever did.

Happy belated 2nd anniversary to us!
So glad I found this place that provides such an awesome ambience and with great food so reasonably priced!

Sushi is my one true love – Bay Sushi

Given that most of the dining restaurants in MBS (Marina Bay Sands Singapore) serve food that are slightly overprice, a bowl of Bak Chor Mee cost $8 at the foodcourt, Bay sushi has easily became my to go place for food if I’m ever at MBS.

Popped by the place for lunch before going for the BMW Show, which was quite disappointing given the lack of hot sexy babes that I was expecting, and once again, the set meals that cost as low as SGD$14.90 makes me satisfied and happy.

Whole wheat Peanut Cookies for Dogs!

Baked some treats for the doggie today, and I am really surprised by how much she loves them! She ate 5 already and is still begging me for more!

Recipe:

2.5 cups of whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1 cup of natural peanut butter
1 cup water
2 tablespoons of honey
1 egg

Mix everything together till you achieve a firm mix that looks a little like puke, lol.

image

Bake in pre heated oven for about 15 minutes on high heat. Cookies are brownish in color due to the whole wheat hence you can’t really tell if its ready, burns quite easily too!

Little girl waiting eagerly for her freshly baked treats…

image

The cookies don’t spread, so feel free to be creative and create all the special shapes! I used the hello kitty cutter that I got from McDonald’s happy meal quite some time back…

I really love this set of measuring spoons that was given as a wedding favor. It truly is very meaningful and very practical.

A spoonful of affection, a heap of love.

Tadah! Not included in the picture is the apple shaped treats.

P.S: These are also suitable for human consumption though I found the taste to be… A little too healthy for my liking.

味香园甜品 – Mei Heong Yuen Dessert (Chinatown)

Anthea and me popped by this place, we walked over from China Square, me in my 3 inch heels mind you, after dinner yesterday at Lobster Platypus Shack (read about it here).

It was still too early to go home, and we were craving for something sweet.

Place was pretty quiet for a Tuesday night, and we ordered the Chendol Shaved Ice to share and some water chestnut thing Anthea wanted. I’ve been craving for Chendol for a long time, and finally I got my fix yesterday! Yay!

Plus: Gula Melaka was “free flow” because they leave the entire bottle at your table.

Negative: Water chestnut was pretty diluted.

Platypus Lobster Shack

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a long time, especially when the craze for lobster rolls is at an all time high recently. However, the place is not opened on Sundays, and we are usually with friends on Saturdays for dinner.

Finally, I met up with a dear friend for dinner today and we went for dinner at Lobster Platypus.

I love food places that serve alcohols, and Lobster Platypus Shack serves pretty reasonably priced drinks. My favorite Moscato is $10/glass, and SOL beer at $5. Whoop!

image

I was pretty spoilt for choices; I eventually chose The Modern while Anthea had the Spicy Roasted Garlic.

I LOVE THIS! Every mouthful was bursting with flavours, and there was a lot lobster chunks throughout the whole roll, and fresh too!

Prices are at $19.90 for a roll, and $22.90 for a set, which comes with a huge serving of truffle chips (which in my opinion tastes like Calbee Potato Chips). The buns were soft on the inside and well toasted on the outside.

Definitely will be heading back again!
Advisable to make reservations as the tables were all reserved, but do take note that the place doesnt call back to check if the reservation is confirmed.

Tokyo Travelogue- Day 1

I love travelling; and I truly love travelling with Kris. Traveling with the person you love really creates the most memorable experiences of discovery and sharing. Discovering new locations, new countries, exploring and getting lost together…. I like that.

I’ve also recently renewed my interest on Nanoblocks, and I’ve told Kris that I want to buy one that symbolizes all the countries we’ve visited. I think year 2014 has been pretty awesome, I’ve traveled a lot, both for work and for holidays, visited a lot of new countries, including Seoul, Tokyo, Kyoto, Ho Chi Ming….

Blessed I am this year, and I can’t wait for another wander lust vacation end of the year.

Actually, the best gift you could have given her was a lifetime of adventures. Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll #travel#quotes

We stayed at Pearl Yaseu Hotel Tokyo, and the location was perfect.

It was located right next to Nihombashi Station, and about 5 minutes walk to Tokyo Station.

I didn’t check the direction we should be walking once we exited Tokyo Station, and we spent about 1/2 hour walking about aimlessly with our luggage before we finally found it, not with Kris nagging me about what a poor planner I am. >=(

Address: 103-0028 Tokyo Prefecture, Chuo-ku Yaesu 1-2-6, Japan

Cost: About USD$100/ night. Pretty decent rate for such a convenient and awesome hotel!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA First stop we headed to after chucking our luggage in the hotel, we were too early and couldn’t check in, was to Tsukiji Fish Market. Super fresh sashimi, super yummy sushi, but not too cheap – average about SGD$30 per pax for a don, and the queue at the famous ones like Sushi Dai was horrible.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA We popped into this randomly, seeing how the queue was short, and we liked it. 🙂

Sushi chef was handsome.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I really liked my don, consisting of Ebi, Hotate, Salmon, Crab meat and my favorite Uni. This cost us about 3000 Yen. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Kris had the Tuna Don, which was really worth it at 1000 Yen. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Some temple near the market. Everywhere in Japan is so pretty…. Its really photo worthy, but it kind of upsetting that Kris takes such bad photos for me…. :*(OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA IMG20141018092704OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

After the market… We headed to Tokyo Towers, which Kris didn’t quite like, because he felt that it is too short. Saw a Monkey show and it was so cute! Especially the part where he stripped off his clothes… Heehee. IMG20141018101748Untitled-1 OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIMG20141018113025 OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHeaded to Zojoji Temple nearby, the first temple we went in Japan out of the countless we headed to… We bought so many amulets!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Headed to Shibuya thereafter for some shopping. The Shibuya crossing was seriously crazy, we tried to take a #selfie in the middle of the crowd but failed. Tried desperately to look for Hachiko, and ended up feeling quite meh about it because it was donning some really ugly dress cos of the design fashion week happening. Popped into some random ramen place for dinner, and as much as I hate to repeat this, but honestly I think even the most random food of all deserves 3 stars. Of course, we took neoprints too, but it turned out horrible because we didn’t know how to use the machines – everything was in Japanese! Urgh! OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIMG20141018154855 IMG20141018223243
