Greenwood Fish Bistro

If there’s one thing that me and Kris have in extreme common, it’s the fact we love seafood. Nothing beats ending the week with a great sashimi or fresh oysters. My birthday this year was on a Monday, and Bubs brought me to Greenwood Fish Market the Sunday before.

The place gets pretty crowded towards late evening, so best to make reservations!

Apparently, he knew about the place from Straits Times. The Greenwood Fish Market and Bistro was having the Oyster festival that month, for the fourth year. Although we love oysters, we really have no inking at all on what the different oysters are, how to choose, how to eat it correctly and so on. Everyone have their own tastes and likings, and for me, I personally prefer the creamier ones. I eat my oysters as it is, without anything else. Bubs eat his with Tabasco and lemon.

Super alot of utensils because we ordered all the different food. Chopsticks for our sashimi platter,  soup spoon for our lobster bisque, knife and fork for the main course, and the smaller fork for the oysters.

We ordered the Baron Point – big oysters, with my finger at the side for comparison, and the Golden Mantle – I really liked these! Very creamy and sweet. Yay to the good recommendation from the waitress! Baron Point is $7 per oyster and Golden Mantle was $4 per oyster during the Oyster Festival.

Lobster bisque soup, 8/10.
The bread provided complimentary from the restaurant was…. extremely hard. Even for bubs who hardly ever complains about his food.

We ordered the lobster with Foie gras white onion tart. The lobster was pretty average, but the main reason why we chose this dish was for the pan seared foie gras. I was craving for this for the longest time already!

Foie gras with white onion tart was a little bizarre. A unique combination which did not go down too well for us. We separated the two, and we prefered it that way.

Verdict:
Will we return? Yes! And please do try to come on Tuesdays. They have a oysters promo on Tuesday at $1.50 each!

And do try the fish and chips too… I’ve read countless reviews that it is one of the best! We noted that there’s also some takeaway promotions for the platter and the fish and chips as well. $9.90 for fish and chips if it’s takeaway!

Things to do in Batam.

Long holidays equate to me wanting to go on a short getaway trip.

Dating a military guy equates to difficulties in leave approvals.

Adding the two up, equates to us going to nearby countries – I am so glad Batam is just a short 30 minute ferry ride away. I can’t wait to explore more of such nearby islands together!

During our last trip there, we stayed at Batam View Resort, a quaint quiet place with its own private beach. It is just beside Montigo resort – Ferry departs from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, and goes to Nongsa Ferry Terminal where the shuttle bus from the hotel will pick you up. If you would like to be at a more centralized place, I’ll advise to stay in one of the many city hotels. My pick would be iHotel Batam, which is just beside Nagoya Hill shopping center – with numerous mani pedi nail salons, hair salons, spa and massage parlor (some of which are strictly for men only) as well as fake branded items. Oh, and not to forget, A&W! There’s a really huge supermarket there as well, and I really can go crazy buying all the snacks and indomee back home…

Batam View also has its own seafood kelong, I really wouldn’t mind eating with such a view everyday… take note that the seafood here is slightly more pricey than those outside, recommended to go to:

1. Golden Prawn Seafood Restaurant where the food is the cheapest among those I’ve ate at.

2. HarbourBay – my favorite! The view is to die for! Choose an outdoor seat, and watch the sun set as the day fades into darkness.

味香园甜品 – Mei Heong Yuen Dessert (Chinatown)

Anthea and me popped by this place, we walked over from China Square, me in my 3 inch heels mind you, after dinner yesterday at Lobster Platypus Shack (read about it here).

It was still too early to go home, and we were craving for something sweet.

Place was pretty quiet for a Tuesday night, and we ordered the Chendol Shaved Ice to share and some water chestnut thing Anthea wanted. I’ve been craving for Chendol for a long time, and finally I got my fix yesterday! Yay!

Plus: Gula Melaka was “free flow” because they leave the entire bottle at your table.

Negative: Water chestnut was pretty diluted.
